Ali Marcus: Press

Marcus’ songs are delicate and sweet, lyrically rich and full of charm. Each one laced with her accomplished guitar strumming and her innocent whisper.
All of these tracks are a woman singing and a guitar, which, in all honesty, is not really Seattlest's speed. We found ourselves digging these, though, so there's a chance that you might like them as well, despite the fact that what Seattlest likes and what healthy and functioning individuals like aren't always the same thing.
The music is quite beautiful. It's just Marcus and an acoustic guitar and that's all you need...Driven by a pretty voice that occasionally recalls Jenny Lewis these are some of the best songs I've heard from a new artist in an age
Ali casts a skeptical look at life's supposed certainties - religion, success, domestic content. She suggests any of these values could someday crash into that big, jagged iceberg of the unknown.
Obviously inspired by any number of women singer/songwriters, Marcus sounds enough unlike all of them to be described as unique, but enough like them to slide easily into the CD collections of those ladies' fans.
"A Matter Of Time" might be the best Dar Williams song Dar Williams never wrote.
Folk music with heart and soul.
